The finishing touches

Palos Hills Flatwork: Pads, Aprons and Utility Slabs

Little slabs that make a big difference in how tidy the whole property looks.

Why the Small Slabs Matter

Walk around most houses and you will find them: a tipped AC pad, a crumbling apron at the garage, a patch of mud where the trash cans sit. None of them are big jobs, but together they make a property look unfinished. Here is the good news. A small slab poured properly fixes the look and the function at once. We start by digging past the soft topsoil, then bring in crushed stone and compact it so the pad has firm, even support. Forms go in square and level, with just enough fall that rain runs off one side. If the slab will carry real weight, like a generator or a heavy shed, we add mesh or bar. The surface gets a finish that suits the job, edges are rounded so they resist chipping, and a control joint goes in if the size calls for one. Then we let it cure properly and clean up. In Palos Hills, where so many side yards are shaded by mature trees, we also look for roots and soft ground before we pour.

What Comes With Flatwork

Small or large, here is what each slab gets.

  • A spot that makes sense

We help you place the slab so it lines up neatly with the house, fence or drive.

  • Old concrete out

A cracked or tilted pad broken up and taken away.

  • Firm ground underneath

Topsoil removed and crushed stone compacted in its place.

  • Square, level forms

Edges set true, with a slight fall to shed water.

  • Steel for heavy loads

Mesh or bar when the slab will hold equipment or a large shed.

  • Clean rounded edges

Tooled so they look neat and resist chips.

  • Joints where needed

Larger slabs get control joints in a tidy pattern.

  • Yard put back

Forms out, soil filled along the edges, debris hauled off.

How a Flatwork Job Goes

  1. Plan it together

We look at the spot, talk about what will sit there and how it should line up, then give you a written price.

  2. Get the ground ready

Old slab removed, soil dug out, stone packed down, forms set square and level with steel if needed.

  3. Pour and tidy

Concrete placed, finished and edged, cured properly, then forms pulled and the area cleaned up.

What You Get With Us

  • It looks deliberate

Square corners and straight edges that line up with the house make a small slab look finished.

  • It stays level

Compacted stone keeps the pad from tipping as the ground moves.

  • No mess left behind

Old concrete, forms and leftovers all leave with us.

  • Lined up with the house
  • Packed stone below
  • Rounded, chip-resistant edges
  • Side yard cleaned
